The Perils of Political Transformation: William Ruto's Journey from "Opposition" to Power

In the theatre of political dynamics, there exists a recurring narrative where figures ascend to prominence by vociferously opposing a prevailing order, only to embody the very principles they once denounced. This phenomenon, starkly observable in contemporary Kenyan politics, reveals a troubling trend that transcends mere political theatre, implicating fundamental issues of governance, integrity, and national identity. The Ruto Paradox: From Anti-State Capture to the Heart of Power William Ruto’s rise to political prominence was rooted in a fervent opposition to the concept of “deep state” and systemic state capture. His campaign resonated with many Kenyans disillusioned by entrenched corruption and elite manipulation. Ruto positioned himself as the champion of the ordinary citizen, a beacon of reform against the opaque machinations of entrenched power. However, upon assuming office, the very principles that propelled Ruto to power seemed to erode. His administration, initially celebr...

From Promise to Perdition: William Ruto's Economic Exodus

To David Ndii and all the economists out there: how long does it take for an economy to "bounce back"? For economic policy to kick in and start showing a semblance of bearing fruit?

Because today, 23 March 2024, marks exactly 1.5 years since William Ruto grabbed power, and things are only getting worse on his watch.

In just 1.5 years, William Ruto's tenure as president has plunged the nation into an abyss of despair and destitution. Under his misguided economic policies, Kenyans are not only struggling to make ends meet but are now facing the unthinkable: starvation due to government-induced poverty. This scathing indictment exposes the sheer incompetence and callous disregard for the welfare of the people under Ruto's rule.

Economic Mismanagement Meets Mass Starvation

Ruto's regime has ushered in an era of unprecedented economic mismanagement, resulting in mass poverty and starvation. A consumer survey conducted by Tala between January and March this year reveals a chilling reality: 18% of Kenyans are selling off assets or skipping meals altogether...read that again: people are starving themselves just to make ends meet! A further 55% have cut down their expenses to cope with the tough economic situation occasioned by the Kenya Kwanza government's clueless economics, while almost one-quarter (23%) are withdrawing their savings to survive.

This dour statistic sits in stark irony against Ruto's neverending complaint that "Kenya does not have a saving culture."

This dire situation is a direct consequence of Ruto's clueless economics, which have driven the nation to the brink of disaster. Never before in Kenya's history has a government presided over such widespread hunger and deprivation during times of plenty.

Taxation Without Representation

Ruto's obsession with imposing punitive taxes on the already struggling populace is nothing short of criminal. While 55% of Kenyans are cutting down expenses to cope with the economic crisis, Ruto shamelessly continues to burden them with higher taxes. His hypocritical lamentations about Kenya's supposed lack of a saving culture are exposed for what they truly are: a thinly veiled excuse to plunder the savings of hardworking citizens under the guise of fiscal responsibility.

Failed Leadership and Broken Promises

Ruto's ascent to power was met with high hopes and lofty promises of prosperity for all. However, his tenure has been marked by broken promises and shattered dreams. Instead of uplifting the nation, Ruto has presided over its steady decline into poverty and despair. His government's incompetence knows no bounds, as evidenced by its inability to address the root causes of economic hardship and its callous disregard for the suffering of the people.

Rigathi Gachagua: A Partner in Crime

Ruto's deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, is equally culpable in this economic debacle. Together, they have propagated a narrative of divine mandate while subjecting Kenyans to untold suffering. Their arrogance is boundless, as they threaten Kenyans with the prospect of hell should they reject their punitive tax regine, and continue to lecture the populace on matters of morality while enriching themselves at the expense of the nation's welfare. The people of Kenya deserve leaders who prioritise their well-being, not self-serving politicians who exploit their suffering for personal gain.

The Way Forward

It is time for Kenyans to rise up against the tyranny of William Ruto and his cronies. We must demand accountability, transparency, and genuine leadership from those entrusted with power. The path to recovery begins with holding Ruto and his government accountable for their failures and demanding real solutions to this economic crisis of their making. It is time to reject the politics of fear and division and embrace a future built on compassion, unity, and shared prosperity for all.

William Ruto's tenure as president has been nothing short of a disaster. His failed economic policies have pushed the nation to the brink of collapse, leaving millions of Kenyans in poverty and despair. It is time for the people to reclaim their power and demand real change from those who purport to represent them. The future of Kenya depends on it.
