How The Government of Kenya is Spying on Your Phone: An Urgent Exposé of State Surveillance

During the recent Gen Z-led protests that shook William Ruto personally and his administration to its very core, many Kenyans found themselves asking a chilling question: How did the police track them down so easily, even in the supposed safety of their homes? Scores of activists and protesters were abducted, many never to be seen again. Suspicion quickly fell on Safaricom and Kenya Power, accused of handing over personal information to a rogue state. But the truth may be even more disturbing—and far simpler than most would imagine... In a revelation that will shock every Kenyan, your private communications—phone calls, texts, and even your physical location—is being monitored without your knowledge. The Kenyan government has been accused of engaging in widespread surveillance of its citizens, using sophisticated tools provided by Israeli cyber-espionage firm Circles. This disturbing information was uncovered in a damning report by Citizen Lab, a digital rights watchdog based at the Un

#OccupyEverywhere: The Way Forward for Kenya After William Ruto

When you rattle a viper make sure you kill it, because if you don't it will kill you instead.

Clause 1 of the Constitution provides that the people of Kenya can exercise power directly if our elected representatives have failed to serve us. But instead, they steal from us, abuse us, brutalise us, and kill us, as William Ruto is doing.
The people don’t need permission from Ruto, or from any of the institutions he has emasculated and hijacked, like the 13th Parliament, the IEBC, or the judiciary, to exercise our sovereignty. All we need are millions of Kenyans on the streets.
The Power of Collective Action
Fellow Kenyans, this is our moment. As we stand on the brink of a revolution, it is essential to understand the gravity of our cause and the historical context that brought us here. The struggles we face are not new; they are the result of years of systemic dysfunction and the inability of the colonial state, and subsequently, post-independence governments, to serve the interests of the people.

Our elected representatives have failed us. Instead of serving the people, they have chosen to steal from us, abuse us, brutalise us, and even kill us. William Ruto's regime epitomises this betrayal, with its pathological lies, imperialist puppetry, and the imposition of punitive IMF and World Bank conditions via the Finance Bill 2024.
The recent move to withdraw the controversial Land Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2023, after initially denying its existence, is a testament to the deceit and underhand tactics employed by Ruto's government. What did Ichung'wah withdraw if such a bill never existed?

The Path to True Independence
The revolution we seek did not erupt in a historical vacuum. It is a continuation of the unfinished struggle for genuine independence and justice that began with our ancestors. The Kenyan state was constructed at the Berlin Conference to extract raw materials, expropriate African land without compensation, and use slave labour. The fight for land and true independence has been ongoing since then.

We must also address the imperial presidency, the emasculation of legislative and judicial arms of government, the culture of impunity, corruption, and the lack of justice for victims of persecution and extrajudicial killings. These issues have persisted through successive regimes, and it is time to bring them to an end.

The Role of the Youth
Throughout history, the youth have been the driving force behind revolutions and transformational change. Today, Gen-Z and Millennials are at the forefront of this struggle, driven by the explosion and institutionalisation of grand corruption, the arrogance of public officers, and the alienation of over 70% of the populace. The youth are demanding accountability, transparency, and a government that serves the people.

The Way Forward
Our immediate goal is clear: the resignation of William Ruto and his entire government, both at the national and county levels.

This is non-negotiable.

We must establish a National Transitional Authority (NTA), composed of 54 professional volunteers of integrity from all communities and religious backgrounds in Kenya. These members must forfeit their right to vie for elections in the next 10 years, ensuring their focus is on the transformation of the state rather than personal gain.

The NTA's responsibilities include:
  • Establishing an Independent Investigative Authority to investigate all questionable land allocations, corruption scandals, state capture, and political assassinations from 1963 to the present. This authority must recover stolen public assets and prosecute perpetrators.
  • Reconstituting the IEBC within three weeks of its establishment to ensure the independence and credibility of our electoral process. Allowing Ruto to reconstitute the IEBC would only perpetuate the cycle of manipulation and corruption.
  • Conducting fresh, democratic, and credible elections using blockchain technology within three months of the IEBC's reconstitution. The winners of these elections must be sworn in as prescribed by the Constitution, with the NTA dissolving upon the resolution of all election petitions.
The Call to Action
Fellow Kenyans, we must be fearless. Our safety lies in our numbers, and our cause is just. We have nothing to lose but Ruto's tyrannical regime of looters and murderers. There is no neutrality in the war for social justice and transformation. If you are against the revolution, you are with the tyrannical looters.

Today, Tuesday 2nd July 2024, marks a pivotal day in our history. It is the climax of the #RutoMustGo campaign, dubbed #OccupyCBDTuesday. Our agenda is singular: ejecting William Ruto from State House. The way forward is clear, and the future of our nation depends on our collective action.

Let us turn out in our millions, reject fear, and embrace our power as the sovereign people of Kenya. Our struggle for a just and equitable society continues.
By standing together, we can transform Kenya and construct a fresh new state built on a pro-people ideological foundation. The revolution is here, and it is unstoppable.
