Apocalypse Doesn't Mean What Most People Think It Means. So How Did It Become Synonymous with the End of the World?

Mention the word apocalypse and most people picture the same scene: cities reduced to rubble, fire falling from the sky, horsemen galloping across a dying Earth, and a final battle that brings human history to an abrupt, terrifying end. Hollywood loves that version. So do many preachers. The Greek language doesn't. The word apokalypsis , from which "apocalypse" is derived, simply means an unveiling, a disclosure, a revelation. Before it became associated with catastrophe, it described the act of pulling back a curtain so that something hidden could finally be seen. That raises an uncomfortable question. If apocalypse originally meant revelation, how did it become almost exclusively associated with global destruction? The answer lies not in a conspiracy but in centuries of interpretation. The Book of Revelation is arguably the most misunderstood book in the New Testament.  Written towards the end of the first century, it emerged during a period when Christians lived under ...

Murkomen vs. Madowo 2.0 Loading: The Sequel Nobody Asked For – JKIA Redux

In the latest installment of Kenya's favourite comedy series, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and CNN's Larry Madowo are no doubt gearing up for Round 2 in their epic battle over the dismal state of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). With leaks, floods, and general chaos reigning supreme, it seems like we're in for a sequel that's even more laughable than the original.

The Return of the Roofs

As the rains pour down on Nairobi, so too do the leaks at JKIA, much to the chagrin of both travellers and armchair critics alike. Murkomen, ever the defender of government ineptitude, finds himself once again in the crosshairs of Madowo's sharp wit and even sharper tweets.

A Tale of Two Twits

The traditional exchanges between Murkomen and Madowo read like a Shakespearean comedy, with each protagonist taking turns to jab at the other's shortcomings. From Murkomen's feeble attempts at deflecting blame to Madowo's relentless pursuit of truth, it's a battle of wits that would make even the Bard himself chuckle. Could it be possible that Murkomen has since sharpened his responses to stop sounding like a beleaguered victim? Is Madowo's wit still as sharp? We wait to see.

Murkomen's Melodrama

Despite the mounting evidence of JKIA's descent into chaos, Murkomen remains steadfast in his refusal to acknowledge reality. Instead of addressing the glaring issues plaguing the airport, he chooses to blame everything from leaky roofs to faulty runways on anyone but himself. It's a masterclass in political buffoonery that would make even the most seasoned circus clown blush.

Madowo Strikes Back

But Madowo, armed with a Twitter account and a penchant for righteous indignation, refuses to let Murkomen off the hook. With every tweet, he exposes the absurdity of Murkomen's excuses and shines a light on the incompetence of those tasked with running Kenya's transportation infrastructure.

The Waiting Game

As Kenyans brace themselves for the inevitable flood of excuses and deflections from the powers that be, one thing remains clear: until someone takes responsibility for JKIA's sorry state, we'll continue to be treated to this never-ending saga of leaks, floods, and farcical finger-pointing.

In the grand tradition of Kenyan politics, the Murkomen-Madowo showdown over JKIA proves once again that when it comes to comedy, truth is always stranger than fiction. As we await the next installment of this riveting saga, one can't help but wonder: will Murkomen finally take action, or will Madowo be forced to pack his bags and head for greener pastures? Only time will tell.
